Dear Bill,
You will probably never know how your help and kindness helped shape my formative career as a PGA Golf Professional.
As a young Scottish assistant at the RAC Club in Epsom, you often asked me to play 9 holes when you popped into the club midweek for a game. At the time money was very tight for me, and I think you probably knew instinctively that I was struggling to make ends meet.
In those early years away from home 1979/80 and working for Peter at the RAC I really was homesick and finding it very difficult in so many ways. I had a good offer to head home to Greenock and work at Gleddoch House for a great Pro who I liked.
I had to make a decision and I seem to remember playing with you at that crucial time. Your help and advice played a part, along with a good bit of determination and personal pride in me deciding to stick it out down south.
I found it tough working for Peter but still look back on those early years at the RAC with fondness. Some of the characters there both members and staff I can still see so clearly in my mind`s eye. Lawrence. Morey, Armando, Dave, Colin etc. As well as countless members and celebrities who were around the club in those years.
You may be pleased to know that I have had a very happy and interesting career as a Head PGA professional of 37 yrs. Head Pro at Prestwick St Nicholas 5 yrs, Yelverton 5 yrs, Ferndown 10 yrs, Royal North Devon 10 yrs.
I am retired now 3yrs 55 yrs old and living in Devon, having also had bit success in business outside and inside golf, married with a son, who is looking like a very good young player himself.
Your help although you probably never would have imagined it, had a big part in all of that. At a point in my early life when it would have been easy to quit, move back home, and possibly drift out of the game. your influence and big personality had an impact and I know it made a difference.

Thanks for your insight, help, and guidance all those years ago. You had an impact.

Hello Bill, just listened to you on the Chris Evans show.
To hear just a few brief minutes about you and your career in the Scottish, UK and world music scene was just brilliant. Thank you for the songs that have made memories within my life.

Hi Bill, I heard your fab interview with Alex Dyke today, great stories, almost as good as some of your wonderful songs! I recently read the Rollers book, it was quite a read, were they really as weak as they seemed when it came to writing and playing? Artists often seem to think they can do better than writers/producers and fall flat on their faces.

Bill, was at your show on Thursday night in the Dome, and throughly enjoyed it and found it very interesting. Unfortunately I had to dash away for my late bus and never got a chance to speak to you. All the best for the future.

Can I ask which close in Taransay St. I was doing search of Taransay St, Govan and your name came up.... You see, my family lived there from about 1930- 1990. In no. 9 (the last before Elder St, 1st floor). I am gathering memorabilia from Govan and Taransay St in particular to pass down the generations. Do you have such a thing as an autobiography ?
